AN UPDATE re the Play Reading Evening

The new date for the play reading is Wednesday 14th October.

Here is all the info from Robin who will be hosting the evening:

Hi to all Manor Players members and any prospective members,

My name is Robin Whitbread. I have been a member of Manor Players for about 2 1/2 years. l was German speaking soldier in Violette.

I have for a long time believed that theatre groups like Manor Players need to be made aware of new (to the club), interesting and challenging plays, especially if the introduction can be made by members. The members concerned do not have to see the plays being performed in the immediate future, nor do they need to want to appear in them. That said, there enthusiasm might lead them to want to direct the play.

My particular interest in this activity is One Act Plays. I would like to see us hold an evening, or two, possibly in the studio, of One Act Plays. These plays could both stand on their own and also act as possible entries for different festivals. Initially these plays could require minimum set, lighting and costume.

These plays would not only enable actors to try out a variety of parts but more importantly would enable aspiring directors to "Cut Their Teeth" on less full blown ventures.

I was given the clearance for this venture and this is the second of our quarterly evenings. The first one, held in July proved very instructive. That said, there could have been more plays being introduced. Remember this is not a competition and the wider the range of plays the better. All plays will be considered, even if we have to retire to the pub to complete the readings.

Prospective and lapsed members are welcome.

The event will start at 7.45. Please try to be on time.
